March 19, 1961: The Boston Red Sox announced at their Scottsdale, AZ, spring training camp that Carl Yastrzemski would be their regular leftfielder for the 1961 season; Yaz, who replaced Ted Williams after 19 seasons with the team, would go on to play a club record 3,308 games over 23 seasons earning election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.
