December 30, 1907: The “Mills Commission” which spent two years investigating the origins of baseball files its report declaring that baseball was invented by Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown, NY, in 1839; researchers will later discover that Doubleday was enrolled at West Point in 1839, and never told anyone of his invention, but Cooperstown is a lovely spot for the Hall of Fame.
