December 17, 2004: The Red Sox announce that they have signed former Cardinals shortstop Edgar Renteria to a four-year $40 million contract from 2005 to 2008; Renteria replaces Orlando Cabrera who has fallen out of favor in the front office and clubhouse, and Renteria will quickly feel the wrath of Red Sox fans, playing only one season in Boston.
