November 3, 1997: Red Sox shortstop Nomar Garciaparra is the unanimous choice as American League Rookie of the Year, the first Boston player to earn that award since Fred Lynn in 1975; Garciaparra was the first rookie in MLB history to bat over .300, hit 30 home runs, drive in more than 90 runs and steal more than 20 bases.
