September 3, 1981: In the longest regular season game ever played at Fenway Park, the Red Sox lost to the Seattle Mariners 8-7 in 20 innings; the game, which was witnessed by 13,355 fans at the beginning, eventually lasted 6 hours and one minute, began on Thursday night but was suspended after 19 innings to be resumed the following day.
