August 9, 1949: The Red Sox defeat New York 6-3 at Yankee Stadium behind two-run homers by Ted Williams and catcher Birdie Tebbetts, but the big story of the game is the end of Dom DiMaggio’s 34 game hitting streak; in his last at-bat of the day Dom hit a line drive to center that looked like it might fall, but brother Joe made a shoestring catch to end the streak.
