August 7, 1956: The Red Sox defeat the Yankees 1-0 before a crowd of 36,350 at Fenway Park as New York lefthander Tommy Byrne walks Ted Williams with the bases loaded; but the big story is that the Red Sox fined Williams $5,000 for repeatedly spitting at the crowd after he is booed for mishandling a Mickey Mantle fly ball.
