This Day in History: 2000-07-20

July 20, 1958: The Red Sox lose 3-0 to the Detroit Tigers as future Kentucky Senator Jim Bunning pitches a no-hitter and strikes out 12 Red Sox hitters; after the game Red Sox pitcher Frank Sullivan sends Bunning a note “You were terrific all the way. I knew if I couldn’t hit you, nobody could hit you!” For the record, Sullivan had a lifetime batting average of .144.
