July 18, 1975: The Red Sox defeat the Kansas City Royals 9-3 as Jim Rice clouts a third inning home run that clears the centerfield wall 20 feet to the right of the flagpole; Rice becomes only the sixth player to clear the centerfield wall joining greats like Jimmie Foxx and Carl Yastrzemski, while owner Tom Yawkey call it “the longest drive I have ever seen in Fenway.”
