June 15, 1976: The Red Sox acquire outfielder Joe Rudi and relief pitcher Rollie Fingers from the Oakland A’s for $1 million each as A’s owner Charlie Finley attempts to clean house; three days later baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn voids the trade as “not in the best interests of baseball” and Rudi and Fingers return to the A’s without ever appearing in a Red Sox game.
