March 1, 1954: After less than one hour on the field in Sarasota, FL, Red Sox great Ted Williams, who had spent most of the 1952 and 1953 seasons in the US military, breaks his collarbone diving for a fly ball; Williams returned to the lineup in mid-May but by then the Red Sox are in last place with a 6-15 record and 8.5 games out of first place.
