February 27, 2002: The John Henry Group, which includes Tom Werner, Larry Lucchino, and the New York Times, officially acquires the Boston Red Sox from the Yawkey Foundation; the sale occurs 69 years and two days after the date the franchise is purchased by Tom Yawkey, and ultimately leads to three World Championships (2004, 2007 and 2013) in ten seasons.
