February 26, 2002: Jean R. Yawkey, widow of Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey, passes away at age 83; the death of Mrs. Yawkey, who had shared the team ownership originally with Haywood Sullivan and Buddy LeRoux, and then solely with Sullivan, brings to an end control of the Red Sox by a Yawkey exactly 59 years and one day after Tom Yawkey’s purchase of the team.
