February 25, 1933: Thomas A. Yawkey, who was born Thomas Y. Austin, officially assumes the ownership of the Boston Red Sox Baseball Club; Yawkey, who will continue as Red Sox owner for 44 years, immediately goes on a buying spree, purchasing the contacts of future Hall of Fame members Joe Cronin, Jimmy Foxx and Lefty Grove, while rebuilding Fenway Park.
