February 20, 1871: The Boston Red Stockings, who are to be managed by Harry Wright who led the Cincinnati Red Stockings, become the first member of the newly formed National Association; the league will disband after the 1875 season after Boston dominates by winning four straight league championships, but the N. A. is considered the ancestor of the National League.
