February 15, 2000: The Boston Red Sox sign outfielder Carl Everett to a three-year contract valued at over $20 million; Everett got off to a fine start in 2000, slugging 35 home runs and making the AL All-Star team, but his rocky relationship with teammates and the media made him a liability, and the Red Sox traded him to the Texas Rangers for Darren Oliver in July 2002.
