February 11, 2002: Prospective Red Sox owner John Henry sells his majority interest in the Florida Marlins to Jeffrey Loria who was the current owner of the Montreal Expos; the sale clears the way for the John Henry-Tom Werner group to assume ownership of the Red Sox, while Loria sells the Expos to MLB who then move the Expos to Washington, DC., as the “Nationals.”
