January 11, 1983: The Red Sox select outfielder Ellis Burks in the amateur player draft as their first round draft choice, and the 20th player chosen overall; Burks will become the starting center-fielder for the Red Sox in 1987 and achieve All-Star honors in 1990, and after leaving as a free-agent following the 1992 season, he will finish his MLB career with the 2004 Red Sox.
