December 29, 2002: The Red Sox sign free-agent relief pitcher Ramiro Mendosa, who has spent the previous seven seasons with the New York Yankees, to a two-year contract; Mendosa proves to be a huge disappointment in 2003, going 3-5 with a 6.75 ERA, he is only used in 27 games in 2004, and he is not re-signed for the 2005 season.
