December 18, 2002: The Red Sox sign relief pitcher Mike Timlin, a veteran of twelve big league seasons, as a free-agent; Timlin will go on to pitch six seasons for the Red Sox as a set-up man and mentor to the younger relief pitchers while making a significant contribution to the 2004 and 2007 World Championship Red Sox teams.
