December 12, 2005: The Red Sox announced the appointment of Ben Cherington and Jed Hoyer as co-general managers to replace Theo Epstein who had left the Red Sox on October 31, 2005; during Theo’s absence the co-GMs engineered a trade with the Florida Marlins that brought Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell to the Red Sox.
