December 11, 2000: Red Sox general manager Dan Duquette announced that the team had signed slugging outfielder Manny Ramirez to an eight-year $160 million contract; Ramirez played 7+ seasons in Boston average 35 home runs and 110 RBI per year and contributed significantly to the 2004 & 2007 World Championships.
