December 9, 1953: The Red Sox trade pitcher Maury McDermott and outfielder Tom Umphlett to the Washington Senators for Jackie Jensen who is known as “The Golden Boy;” Jensen, who earned his nickname as an All-American fullback at the University of California, will lead the AL in RBI three times in seven seasons in Boston and be named AL MVP in 1958.
