December 4, 2003: The Red Sox signed 44 year-old Terry Francona as their 44th manager beginning in 2004; Francona would manage the Red Sox for eight seasons and lead them to their first World Championship in 86 years in his first season, following up with a second World Championship in 2007, before resigning following the 2011 season.
