November 17, 1947: The Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Browns agree to a trade involving eight players and a $300,000 payment by Boston; the key player for the Red Sox is shortstop Vern “Junior” Stephens, who will send Johnny Pesky to third base (1948-1952), and who will average 33 home runs in his first three seasons while leading the AL in RBI during two of them.
