November 2, 1938: Red Sox first baseman Jimmy Foxx is selected as the Most Valuable Player in the American League for a then record third time; “Old Double-X” averaged over 30 home runs, 100 run scored and 100 RBI from 1936 to 1942 with the Red Sox and he was elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame in 1951.
