September 11, 1918: The Boston Red Sox, behind the three-hit pitching of Carl Mays, defeat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 in Game Six of the World Series to clinch the World Championship on the earliest date in MLB history; this is the Red Sox third World Championship in four years but their last for 86 years.
