August 17, 1950: In the first Ladies Night game in American League history the Red Sox, led by Bobby Doerr’s first inning grand slam home run, defeat the Philadelphia Athletics by a score of 10-6; a total of 7,146 ladies who are accompanied by a paying customer are admitted free and the loss is the A’s 19th straight loss at Fenway Park.
