July 4, 1977: The Red Sox create their own fireworks, exploding for eight home runs, the MLB record at the time, and defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-6 to snap a nine-game losing streak; Fred Lynn and George “Boomer” Scott both hit two home runs, while Yaz, Butch Hobson, Jim Rice, and Bernie Carbo hit one each, with four of the home runs coming in the eighth inning.
