May 17, 1971: The Red Sox pick Luis Tiant up off the scrap heap and sign him to a minor league contract after he is released first by the Twins and then by the Atlanta Braves; Luis’ sore arm recovers and he will go 15-6 in 1972, and 121-81 during his seven full seasons with the Red Sox, ultimately earning election to the Red Sox Hall of Fame.
