This Day in History: 2000-03-22

March 22, 1972: In one of the worst trades in Boston Red Sox history, the team traded relief pitcher Al “Sparky” Lyle to the Yankees for first baseman Danny Cater; Lyle would go on to win a Cy Young Award with the Yankees and pitch effectively for 11 more seasons while Cater would spend three mediocre seasons with the Red Sox.
