March 14, 1874: A.G Spalding, star pitcher for the Boston Red Stockings, announces that he has arranged for the team to tour England, Ireland, and France between July 16 and August 26 that season; the Red Stockings are scheduled to play a combination of baseball games and cricket matches against local teams and the highlight will be a “base ball” exhibition in London.
